Endless Crosswords works without a user account. Your progress (solved words, unlocked areas, entries, settings, statistics) is stored locally on your device. We do not collect names, email addresses, location data or contacts.

The app connects to the internet for: advertising and the consent prompt, analytics and crash reports (after consent), notifications (if you turn them on), purchases, leaderboards and progress backup (if you are signed in to Game Center or Google Play Games), puzzle reports (if you send a report) and puzzle packs. These functions are explained below.

The app shows advertising: rewarded videos that you watch voluntarily (for example for hints) and short interstitial ads. For this we use the ad network Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). The one-time purchase “Ad-free” removes the advertising.

When an ad is loaded and played, Google may process data, including your IP address, device information, the advertising ID (IDFA on iOS, Android advertising ID) and information about your interaction with the ad. On iOS the advertising ID is only used if you agree in the tracking prompt. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we also ask for your consent through Google’s consent dialog (User Messaging Platform). Depending on your choice in the dialog you receive limited, non-personalised ads. Without consent no ads are requested.

The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25 TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time: in the app under Settings → “Privacy settings” (shown in countries with a consent prompt), on iOS in the device settings under “Privacy & Security → Tracking”, on Android in the device’s ad settings. More information: policies.google.com/privacy.

With your consent (the same prompt as for advertising) the app uses Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Remote Config (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). This shows us how the app is used (for example level reached, words solved, use of hints and videos, purchases, session length) and gives us reports about crashes. Remote Config delivers game values, such as the interval between ads.

A random app instance ID, device and system information (model, operating system, language, app version), coarse event data and, for crashes, technical error data are processed. No names or contact details are collected. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25 TDDDG) where required. You can withdraw it in the app’s privacy settings. More information: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

If you turn on “Notifications” in the app, we schedule local reminders on your device (for example when a hint is back or your next area is close). Reminders are not sent between 10 pm and 8 am. In addition your device registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging for news; a device identifier (token) is transmitted to Google for this. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or in the device settings. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

If you are signed in to Apple Game Center (iOS) or Google Play Games (Android), the app sends your results (words solved, longest streak, Endless mode result, achievements) to the respective service. Your player name and rank are visible to other players there, as you set it in the service. In addition the app can back up your progress through the same service and restore it on a new device. Processing is carried out by Apple Inc. or Google Ireland Limited under their privacy policies (apple.com/privacy, policies.google.com/privacy).

This function is optional. Without signing in, leaderboards and backup stay off and the app works fully.

Purchases (for example “Ad-free”) are made through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. We do not receive any payment data. The app checks locally whether a purchase exists, and the stores tell us the purchase status.

With the “Report puzzle” function you can point out a mistake. We transmit anonymously the affected word, the clue, the area and reason of the report, the platform, the app version and the time to a Google Firestore database (data center in the EU). No personal data is transmitted. We delete the reports once they have been handled.

We load puzzle packs and updates from our server (Firebase Hosting, Google). For technical reasons the server processes your IP address in log files. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Tracking (iOS): Only for personalised advertising. You can decline, the app remains fully usable.

Notifications: Only if you turn them on.

The app does not need access to the camera, microphone, location, contacts or photos.

All local data is deleted when you uninstall the app. In the app you can also reset your progress under Settings → “Start over”. Data at Apple or Google (leaderboards, backup, advertising ID, Firebase) can be managed in the settings of your Apple or Google account. For Firebase Analytics data you can also contact us.

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, and the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. Requests about advertising, Firebase, leaderboards and purchases can also be addressed to Google or Apple. If you have questions, contact: support@dxdotm-coding.com

This privacy policy may be updated when the app changes significantly. The current version is always available on this page.
